Presenting without Garth is always difficult, so I think I would have sounded smarter with him there...but I think I got my message across. By-the-way, it is always interesting to see how you fidget when you speak in public :). Below my video is the entire playlist. They make awesome sense when you watch them in order. Thanks to @brueckj23 @MrMacRaild @theipodteacher for putting yourselves out there with me.
A few months ago I had the opportunity to give an IdeaTalk at IdeaStream of Cleveland WVIZ. The goal was to take a few of the education leaders in northeast Ohio, give them 1 slide and 5 minutes to inspire teachers at the end of a technology conference. So here is the thing; all four of us are seasoned presenters and teachers. We should have all been perfectly calm talking to a group of our peers. Instead, we were all nervous. Index Cards and cell phones became our prompts to keep us on task. Maybe it was the cameras, or the short time frame, whatever the case, I think all of us felt (a little) under-prepared. I went last. After listening to the Jeremy, Ryan and Jon, I decided to scrap my original plan and wing it. See, we all focus on technology integration in the classroom and how we need to change teaching & learning. All three guys spoke very well about the changing role of technology, the teacher and the amazing things they have seen students accomplish. The crowd was into it. But as I watched for body language, I really felt like almost no one really knew where to start. They all had this "this is so awesome, but I can't do something that amazing" kind of look on their face. I decided to break down what we are all really talking about when we talk about changing education. Garth and I have said for a long time that the real secret to what we do is not technology, but empathy. So I spoke about teachers going back to their rooms to inspire their students.
