Eric Curts, a google master jedi, runs a free conference in August in the Canton area dealing with technology in the classroom. I had the pleasure to keynote the first Sparcc conference and I have presented every year of the conference since. It usually has around 500 teachers and 50 presentations in the one day formate.

First look at #Sutori

For a quick project, exploring weapons of the middle ages, I asked students to pick one of three softwares to try: Sutori, Adobe Spark (about 15 kids had used beofre) and Smore (all had used this before).

Each one offers a little different way to build and creating your project. This post will cover Sutori. I will add future posts to discuss Spark and Smore.

Frist, it offers a free version and paid for version. I used the trail 30 day version for this project (even If I don't upgrade, your UPGRADES will work after the 30 days).

The free version offers:
Basic story creation:

Create & embed stories
Add text
Add images
Collaboration
Class management

Student added matching self correcting quiz, images, text and video from Youtube.

Upgrade: One teacher unlimited kids ($99 a year)
Plus, Sutori Analytics to:
All Sutori Essential features plus:

Add quizzes
Add audio
Add headings
Embed content
Added customization

Plus, Sutori Analytics to:

Measure student progress
Track student engagement
Save and print worksheet results

Student worked 1 hour and 18 minutes on building his Sutori. He embedded 12 features. This shows up in Analytics in Sutori.

What I liked:

Visual timeline effect
Ability to use both sides of the screen
embed Google docs, maps, thinglinks, padlets, flipgrids, tweets, quizlets, instagrams and more.
did you know and forums to discuss the learning.
Easy chat box to get help if you need it!

Issues:

One big issue: embed in weebly blog requires changes to the code to show a scroll bar.

Overall, I am getting this software for next school year. The $99 cost is worth the quality and ability this software gives you. I do not think my students on attempt number one scratched the surface of what can be produced using this software, but the first results are worth looking deeper.

Quickly the added directions to add a scroll bar to the embed code. I found the chat box quick and efficient.
