Katie Regan Twitter Page #Chromebookcamp was this weekend in Westlake, Ohio and hosted by Saint Joseph Academy and The University of Akron. I was interested in this conference for two reasons: 1. My district is moving to chrome books from MacBooks (only Pro's being made now) next year 2. The keynote speaker, Katie Regan, was from Syracuse, NY and had taught at the high school I graduated from in 1989--Jordan-Elbridge Jr-Sr High School. Katie is part of #ladygeeks and has a webshow that interviews and discusses educational technology, check out her website at www.ladygeeks.org
I will leave my general comments on the session for part two, later this week. I will say, I learned some cool tips and tricks about the chrome-book.
I was introduced to Katie about 15 minutes or so before her keynote. We talked for a few minutes and I tossed out some names of my old teachers, she knew a few. Katie had worked one year with my 7th grade Social Studies teacher, Bruce Derrick. I found my love for history in his class and I would not be where I am today without him instilling in me a love for history and learning. Mrs. Regans overall message was an important one (easier said then done): GIVE UP CONTROL and change teaching and learning in your classroom.
