As the 2016/2017 school year gets started I, will be given some new opportunities. For the first time in my educational career I will be teaching high schoolers. When I first found out that I would be moving to the high school one of the biggest questions I had revolved around culture. If you have ever heard us present you know that we firmly believe in taking time at the beginning of the year to help establish the culture you want for your classroom. After giving it a great deal of thought I ended up landing on many of the same activities that we have done with our seventh graders. Of course there have been some slight adjustments in hopes of making the lessons a better fit for high school students. Once I get through some of the upcoming lessons I will be writing part 2 of this post which will describe some of the activities that I did along with notes on what did and did not work so well.
One of the questions we get asked most frequently is how do you start the process of changing your classroom...? Well stay tuned throughout this school year and you can walk the journey with me as I take our style of teaching to the high school.
