 Six students came to the conference on March 18, 2011 and they did what we as teachers always do. They documented the day. The following three you-tubes were made at the conference. They had five hours to build these video's from 12 hours of film footage. Mike and I are very proud of their the work they did and the engagement of the 400 teachers from North East Ohio. I think the students did a great job creating these videos. For them to complete this project done in so little time (including editing) is commendable. I hope that this inspires them to continue to strive for excellence in education and beyond. Garth, I was thinking along the line of your "Real life skills" comment when I read that the students completed the project in 5 hours with 12 hrs of raw video. That shows me they had to organize their presentation as they were videoing (taking mental notes) and then make quick decisions regarding which points or interviews they wanted to highlight and edit into the final copy. At the same time they would be dealing with the pressure of working with others while trying meet a short deadline. This was a relevant assignment to gain experience with real life skills. Good work. Billy, Yes you are right. These kids are learning important skills for the world of tomorrow. After seeing this and keeping in mind that this the video showcased what the students thought was important for their future I was touched. Immediately I commented on the video on youtube. It goes without question that the students did a fabulous job creating the video but I was touched because they turned it into something to teach other educators about what and how students really want to learn. It's amazing what students can create when they are inspired and are provided with the tools and resources. I am so impressed that these videos were made by middle school students. The work that the students did was amazing. I know that I would have trouble making something like this video even if I had an entire weekend to work on it. I can't beleive that in such a limited time they were able to create such great videos. This shows that students can create great things as long as they have someone behind them letting them know they can do this. It's inspiring as a future teacher to see what students can create. These videos are amazing. The students did a great job and you can tell that they spent a lot of time on them. It is so inspiring that middle school students can make videos like that.
